Hello, Grade 3 Families!


Social /Science
Our cultural presentations have definitely been the highlight of our week.  The children have put forth so much effort. We have been truly able to appreciate getting to know our classmates on a deeper level.  Through this process, we have been able to define the differences between what culture and traditions are.  We now understand these words and see how they apply throughout the world.  Thank you for helping your child with this project and we look forward to seeing the rest of them.

Your child brought home a letter with their google account information to show you their work on a Social presentation about their culture. Please feel free to help your child add more detailed information at home, and we will designate class time for the majority of the work on this presentation. 

Math
This week we will be learning about money, how to count it and make the change!  We will continue learning about word problems and use them in this unit.  After the break, we will dive into multiplication.


LiteracyDuring literacy, we finished our projects pertaining to the controversy over WIFI in national parks.  The children were very excited about what they were able to accomplish.  Their self-reflections are very honest and from these, they were able to identify their next steps in writing.  This week we will start a new piece of writing using the organizational tools that we have learned throughout this process.  We will also introduce some new techniques.

-Please look in your child's Feedback Friday folders, go over this week's page, sign and return it to school. Students should be keeping each week's page in their folder, to see the growth and what we need to work on!

Good Morning, Grade Three Families, Last week we established some new routines including music on Tuesday/Thursday and choir on Friday.  We will we also visited Ms. Dorothy in the learning commons for a story and will continue this practice throughout the year.  Children will be able to sign out books through the week and can keep them for up to two weeks.  As children are building up their stamina to read at school and at home during quiet or partner reading, we encourage them to keep one book at school and take one home. Last week started to explore rocks and minerals in science, the parts and whole of numbers in math and a map of my heart in social.  Literacy was discovered through centers as well as in other curriculum areas. This week we will learn about the layers of the earth in science, a map of my community in social and increasing and decreasing numbers in mathematics. Good Morning, Grade 3 Families! We hope you have enjoyed the first week back to school as much as we have. As we are now settling in to our new classes we will begin Literacy centers every morning, and starting into Rocks and Minerals this week! Some of our favorite things w e enjoyed this week were learning new Math card games, mindful sketching in the courtyard and a game called "Who is It?". Your children took home a new folder on Friday, containing a "Feedback Friday" sheet with basic math facts and some writing where we were able to get to know a bit more about them! They were given 30 minutes to get as much done as they could and taken home to share with their family. These will be done every Friday to show you what we are working on, what you can assist your child with, as well as how your child is improving throughout the year.
