Curriculum Newsletter - Grade 3                                                            January 24, 2020 This letter gives you information about the curriculum taught in the first term of grade three. Math In Math this term, students have been specifically working on: ❏      Double digit number operations to create and solve problems with regrouping ❏      Analyzing data - using bar graphs, line plots, counting and surveys to display and interpret data in more than one way ❏      Measuring using non-traditional forms of measurement(ex: pencils, mittens, shoes) for length, width and height ❏      Demonstrate an understanding of addition and subtraction of numbers with answers to 1000 (limited to 1- and 2-digit numerals this term), concretely, pictorially and symbolically ❏      Increasing and decreasing patterns - numerical and non-numerical Language Arts Students have explored a wide variety of informational and narrative texts, reading ind

January 20th

Welcome back! We hope you all had a great weekend. As per twitter please send clothes for the weather - which could get wet and sloppy - as we will be outside again for recesses. Spelling list: - by - could - every -fly -from -give -going -had -has -her We are starting our bridge unit this week for Science and it will tie into Math and writing. The kids are going to be so excited! Ask them about it! Reminders: - report cards going home on Friday, please check backpacks! -A few of the Eco Leaders in grade 3 have a field trip on Wednesday -please sign and return Feedback Friday forms in the folders

January 12th

Good Afternoon, Grade 3 Families! We hope you're staying warm during this deep freeze! As a reminder, please send your child to school with layers of clothing, boots, hats, mittens, snow pants and a jacket. While we will not be going outside below -20 (including windchill), in case of emergency they need to be dressed properly. Spelling words: who, will, with, yes,  after, again, an, any, as, ask Please return signed copies of Feedback Friday, after they have been reviewed and any corrections made.  We are starting on some smaller number multiplication and it has been going very well, the students are very successful with this so far! We are proud of them. In Social Studies we are taking a deeper look into India! After we complete our research, groups will create poems, books or songs to express what they have learned and share with the class. In Science we will soon be starting our unit on building bridges. January, 6th 2020

Welcome back to a brand new year!  We are excited to get back to learning and our school routines! We are looking forward to hearing all about your adventures over the last two weeks, and seeing your smiling faces again!  I hope you had a fun and restful break! As we transition into the new year, we will take a look at groups of numbers and multiplication. Our goal in grade three is to understand multiples up to 5*5, and the reverse, once we get into division. We will be starting some new and exciting book studies in our guided reading groups this week.
