February 10th

Good Morning! We are excited to continue working on our inquiry project for this 3-day week. Reminder that there is no school on Monday as well (Family Day).         -Popcorn orders are going home Friday         -Students made a class list of names for Valentines last week, there are 22 students in Ms. S's class and 23 in Ms. Norrie's (Please add our new student who joined our class today!)         -We will be exchanging Valentines on Wednesday, if students are bringing treats please make                 sure they are peanut free Ron Southern School will be holding a  Heart  & Stroke Foundation  JUMP   Rope   For   Heart  assembly on  Monday February 10.   Students will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of  heart  health and the ways that skipping can provide a quick and effective fitness workout. Skipping activities will take place during Phys Ed classes, and we would like to offer the opportunity  for  students and families to fundraise online an

February 3rd

Hello Grade 3 Families! This weeks spelling words are: open, over, put, round, some, stop, take, thank, them, then We have began an inquiry project where we use the question:  How can we use design thinking to design and create sustainable bridges around the world?  With the focus on our countries of study (Canada, Peru, India, Tunisia, and Ukraine). This project will combine all subjects and we are so excited to get started! We will continue to work on 2D shapes, and begin exploring 3D ones this week. This knowledge is helpful for our building unit. Please be safe outside - with the melting and freezing there are some icy spots on sidewalks. Reminders: - Cool Card fundraiser went home on Thursday, and orders are due February 20th - Eco Leaders are snowshoeing Wednesday (please dress for the weather)  - No school next Thursday, Friday or the following Monday (Family Day)

Curriculum Newsletter - Grade 3                                                            January 24, 2020 This letter gives you information about the curriculum taught in the first term of grade three. Math In Math this term, students have been specifically working on: ❏      Double digit number operations to create and solve problems with regrouping ❏      Analyzing data - using bar graphs, line plots, counting and surveys to display and interpret data in more than one way ❏      Measuring using non-traditional forms of measurement(ex: pencils, mittens, shoes) for length, width and height ❏      Demonstrate an understanding of addition and subtraction of numbers with answers to 1000 (limited to 1- and 2-digit numerals this term), concretely, pictorially and symbolically ❏      Increasing and decreasing patterns - numerical and non-numerical Language Arts Students have explored a wide variety of informational and narrative texts, reading ind

Welcome back! We hope you all had a great weekend. As per twitter please send clothes for the weather - which could get wet and sloppy - as we will be outside again for recesses. The kids are going to be so excited! Ask them about it! January 12th

Good Afternoon, Grade 3 Families! We hope you're staying warm during this deep freeze! As a reminder, please send your child to school with layers of clothing, boots, hats, mittens, snow pants and a jacket. While we will not be going outside below -20 (including windchill), in case of emergency they need to be dressed properly. Spelling words: who, will, with, yes,  after, again, an, any, as, ask Please return signed copies of Feedback Friday, after they have been reviewed and any corrections made.  We are starting on some smaller number multiplication and it has been going very well, the students are very successful with this so far! We are proud of them. In Social Studies we are taking a deeper look into India! After we complete our research, groups will create poems, books or songs to express what they have learned and share with the class. In Science we will soon be starting our unit on building bridges. Welcome back to a brand new year!  We are excited to get back to learning and our school routines! We are looking forward to hearing all about your adventures over the last two weeks, and seeing your smiling faces again!  I hope you had a fun and restful break! As we transition into the new year, we will take a look at groups of numbers and multiplication. Our goal in grade three is to understand multiples up to 5*5, and the reverse, once we get into division. We will be starting some new and exciting book studies in our guided reading groups this week. December 13th

Good Afternoon Grade 3 Families! There is no school next Friday and it will be a busy week we will not be doing a spelling test! They have been working very hard and creating amazing culture presentations. Thank you for sharing family photos, treats and artifacts with us! We are starting to add money into word problems, which we will continue until Christmas! It is both fun and challenging for the students so far. This week ahead students are invited to participate in spirit week at Ron Southern School by wearing the following special items each day, if they choose to: Monday: Sweater Day Tuesday: Hat Day Wednesday: Matching Day Thursday: PJ Day Reminder Thursday is our last day of school before winter break.
