Hello Grade 3 Families!

This has been a busy week for us writing our Student Learning Assessments (SLA's) in grade 3! We have also continued into our Rocks and Minerals unit moving into landforms as we took a deeper look at Volcanos! With the SLA's wrapping up this week, we will have more time to begin a new project about Peru for Social Studies.

Your children have worked so hard this week writing their SLA's, in lieu of Feedback Friday, please do this addition activity as a family:
  • count the number of doors in your house
  • count the number of stairs in your house
  • add them together
  • write it down on a piece of paper with your name and your parents name who you did the addition with
  • bring it to class
  • your paper will be entered to win a prize!

Results will be shared with parents when they have been marked and sent back to us!

Reminders:
- Bring book truck books back when finished reading them, as the next visit will be October 23rd

September 16th, 2019

Good Morning, Grade Three Families, Last week we established some new routines including music on Tuesday/Thursday and choir on Friday.  We will we also visited Ms. Dorothy in the learning commons for a story and will continue this practice throughout the year.  Children will be able to sign out books through the week and can keep them for up to two weeks.  As children are building up their stamina to read at school and at home during quiet or partner reading, we encourage them to keep one book at school and take one home. Last week started to explore rocks and minerals in science, the parts and whole of numbers in math and a map of my heart in social.  Literacy was discovered through centers as well as in other curriculum areas. This week we will learn about the layers of the earth in science, a map of my community in social and increasing and decreasing numbers in mathematics. Good Morning, Grade 3 Families! We hope you have enjoyed the first week back to school as much as we have. As we are now settling in to our new classes we will begin Literacy centers every morning, and starting into Rocks and Minerals this week! Some of our favorite things w e enjoyed this week were learning new Math card games, mindful sketching in the courtyard and a game called "Who is It?". Your children took home a new folder on Friday, containing a "Feedback Friday" sheet with basic math facts and some writing where we were able to get to know a bit more about them! They were given 30 minutes to get as much done as they could and taken home to share with their family. These will be done every Friday to show you what we are working on, what you can assist your child with, as well as how your child is improving throughout the year.
